Storage Methodology

Unlimited Mailbox supports Single Instance and De-duplication mail file storage methodologies.

Legal opinions vary on how data should be stored, so we provide alternative approaches and permit the customer to select the variation that is most suitable to their business requirements.

Specifically, the following three storage methodologies are available:

  1. Full Single Instance (store one copy of the message along with one copy of the attachment and point everybody to it)
  2. Single Instance storage not utilized - complete individual message storage whereby all message bodies and attachments are stored separately
  3. Deduplication - store individual copies of the message and one copy of the attachment, everybody is pointed to the attachment

Hardware Requirements

Unlimited Mailbox software requires the following (minimum) hardware:

  • Dual Core Processor (e.g. Intel, AMD)
  • 2GB RAM per processor
  • 10GB available hard disk space
  • Local CD-ROM (unless installation is being conducted remotely)
  • Tape drives, if archiving with backend software (if archiving without backend software, storage arrays are used)

Unlimited Mailbox is, by design, compatible with all major industry hardware vendors. This frees the client to select the hardware infrastructure that is best suited to other aspects of their operating environment.

Software Requirements

Operating System Software – Unlimited Mailbox is compatible with all major industry operating system platforms (Windows NT 4.0 or higher – up to and including 2008, Solaris, Linux/Unix, AIX, HP-UX, or AS/400).

Web Application Server Software options include IIS, Apache Tomcat*, WebSphere, or WebLogic.

Database options include RDMS such as MySQL*, DB2, Oracle, or SQL Server.

*The Unlimited Mailbox archiving solution is shipped with open source software (no licensing costs) Apache Tomcat (application server) and MySQL (database) which, along with Unlimited Mailbox (archiving), reside on a separate backend server.
